Help

Double click on the chat window in the top left of the game and there in the tab Friends open the window on the right and press the corresponding icon for the name
 
Click chat window. Then lobby, or race room if in a race lobby. On right side is gray section where all people are listed. Right click name person wish to add. Window will pop up, top click add. Now just wait for person to accept in friend chat tab. All friends share chat use in that tab.
