Are you sure its something that progresses over time? I've noticed the same thing, and I did some testing via drag mode. It seemed to me like every time I restarted my game, the angle at which my car drives is slightly different every single time. And the car simply never goes perfectly...

Just want to chime in that I've personally never encountered this issue. I've done a fair bit of drag farming with automatic players as well, and they all tell me that their transmission always goes back to automatic after moving back to another mode from drag. So there must be another factor...
